Garage Sale finds weekends of July 4th and July 11th
It’s been a few weeks and the summer has been getting hotter. People have been starting sales at 6 A.M. This is a good idea, but means I have to get up a lot earlier.
The last few weeks have been slow and I haven’t found much. It seems my competition is getting to the good items first. Let’s start with the sales I went to on the 4th of July. I went to a sale that advertised Wii, and Nintendo DS stuff. There was a little girl who had several GBA SPs marked at $20 apiece with no chargers. My competition showed up, looked at a few things on his phone and left. I saw she had a battered pink DS lite for $5 and a blue and black DS lite for $20 with charger. She wouldn’t budge on the prices so I took the black and blue DS lite. Most of the games she had were overpriced at $5 to $10 each.
I went to one other sale on 4th of July, this guy had advertised 360 games. When I got there at 8:30 A.M. he had old sports games for 360 and Rock Band drums and guitar with the game for $20. I almost grabbed the Rock Band since the prices have started to climb again. But I don't own a 360 currently so I don't have a way to test it. I did pick up a pair of netgear powerline adapters for $5.
July 11th was a little better. I went to another sale that advertised PS1 games. My competition was there and he was looking through the box of PS1 stuff first. The guy also brought out a box of Xbox games, mostly common titles, although I did see KOTR, I was not fast enough to get those games or the PS1 system with the games, but from what I could see most of the PS1 games were sports titles. I did get a big box of Duplos for $10 for my nephew.
I hit a few more sales, most of them had overpriced PS2 games or old Wii games. By this point, it was after 9am and I was getting discouraged. On the way back home, I stopped at one sale that had listed 360 games. I recognized the guy from work. I grabbed digital downloads for Tomb Raider and Arkham City for 360 and I’ll probably give those away on the site.
I stopped by a neighborhood sale that I had seen on Craigslist. I picked up Metal Gear Solid 1 in a cracked case for $3. That will end of being trading fodder.
The next two weekends are busy, but look for me to hit garage sales hard in August as the season starts to wind down for me. I am seeing more and more Wii stuff at sales this year. Garage sale tip of the week: show up early. By being there 15 minutes early, you may beat the competition.
