Uperfect X Pro 15.6" 4k Lapdock Review

They call the Uperfect X Pro a Lapdock. It’s pretty much a 15.6’ 4k portable monitor with an attachable magnet keyboard like a Surface Pro. Most people connect their phones to it so they can use their phones like a laptop. What’s great about this model is yes you can do that, but you can also connect a Steam Deck via USB-C. This means not only can you play your games on a bigger screen, but you can use it as a desktop and have a working PC with a keyboard and mouse without carrying two more accessories with you.

The X Pro is thin and lite. The main body is made from aluminum and has a metal folding kick stand that covers all the inputs. It also has rubber pads on the bottom to prevent slipping. The screen is a 15.6” touch WLED by LG with a max resolution of 3840x2160 with HDR. It has built in speakers that are ok. Not much bass, but get the job done if you’re traveling or in a hotel. One thing that sets this monitor apart, is that it has a built in 10,000mAh battery. Uperfect boasts 8hrs of video playback and 4 to 6hrs of use with a device. In my testing with max brightness I would get 2-3hrs.

So how well does this device work with the Steam Deck? For gaming it works very well. Like any other monitor you plug the Steam Deck in and go. You do have to keep in mind there is no auto up-scaling. Your game will display at 800p. If you want to run games at say 720p or 1080p you will need to run the games from the Steam client in desktop mode. Keep in mind this will affect performance, so you will have to adjust accordingly. Just keep this in mind when you connect the deck and it looks blurry and low res. Also you will need a USB-C hub if you want to charge the deck and power the screen at the same time. The screen can charge the deck from the battery but it is a slow charge and the deck will run out of power almost as quickly as it does in handheld. It does have mini HDMI so you could use something like the Jsaux Dock Charger + but you will lose touch screen and keyboard support.

The X Pro is touch screen and when connected to the deck via USB-C the touch screen will work in game and on the home screen. When the keyboard is connected you can use the touch pad to navigate. This goes for in game as well. The keyboard is fine to use in game but the touch pad isn’t that great. I would recommend a real mouse for gaming. I have found the best use of the device is using it in desktop mode. This truly makes the deck a full computer. The keyboard works great and the touch pad is sufficient as with any laptop. The only issue is when the keyboard is attached to the monitor it causes it to raise up so that two of the four rubber pads are off the table and the keyboard had some up and down play when typing. If the keyboard connected like the Surface Pro keyboard does it would be more stable and the monitor could have all four feet on the table.

Overall, the Uperfect X Pro is a perfect choice for anyone who is looking for a gaming monitor for the Steam Deck. Adding the keyboard is a plus. The price might scare people off at $430 at the time of this review, but if you are going to use it with multiple devices like a PS5, Xbox Series or even a Switch on the road or you want to use your Steam Deck as in desktop on the road you cant go wrong with the X Pro for the price. I wrote this whole review using the X Pro and my deck!
