Weekend Ramblings 3/23/14

The past two week have seen some great games come out. Titanfall, Metal Gear, inFamous Second Son and Dark Souls II. Nice to have a few good games in March for a change.

Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls is next up this week. The improvements they have done to Diablo 3 are really good. If you have the game boot it up and give it a run again, you might just be surprised. Also Hearthstone is finally out of beta and is free to play. It is fantastic and addictive.

This week I will be posting my reviews of The Witch and the Hundred Knight as well as my super late review of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. I will say it is one of the best games for the Vita. Go buy it right now, it is worth it.

This week was the Shenmue Postmortem at GDC. If you missed Yu Suzuki talking about the making of the game do yourself a favor and check it out here. It was very interesting and I loved every minute of it and you will too.

One of the two new Assassins Creed games was announced this week. Assassins Creed: Unity which takes place in France during the French Revolution. I'm sure it will be good and I'll buy it day one. Since this is the Next Gen/PC version I'm interested to see what the 360/PS3 game will be.

I don't understand everyone throwing Metal Gear Solid V: GZ under the bus in their reviews. Yes it is a short game but you can squeeze so many hours out of it to unlock everything. Those who have reviewed the game and rated it bad because of the length and cost of the game have really done a disservice to themselves as journalists. If you are going to hand out a bad rating because you thought the game was too expensive for it length then I ask you to look at games like Brothers (2hrs), Call of Duty MW 3 and COD: Ghost (5hrs each), Portal (3 hrs), Mirrors Edge (6 hrs), Metal Gear Rising (5hrs), Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II (4hrs). Do I need to go on? 90% of games these days we pay way too much for and don't get too much. I remember the days when you would buy a game and that might be the only game that comes out for a few months. Now you pay $60 for half a game and a week or two later DLC comes out you have to pay for that should have been in the game in the first place. But don't make 95% of your review of a game based on length and cost. Most of the reviewers probably didn't pay of the game anyway.

What I'm going to say now might not settle well with some gamers but I'm really not seeing why everyone is rating inFamous so high. I have been playing for a few hours now and I'm kinda bored. The graphics are great, gameplay is ok but the story is really weak. I'm still going to finish it but it isn't as exciting as the first hour was. It could end up being my overrated game of the year. We will see...

One last thing before I go, I will be attending the East Coast Game Conference April 23rd. I won't be able to go for both days but I will be there all day taking it all in. If you are going be there feel free to shoot me an email and let me know. Would love to meet up and say hello.

Until next week!
