Neversong is an interesting take on a 2D platform/adventure game. The game reminds me a lot of Limbo and I was pretty excited to play it. Although it's not long, Neversong is an interesting and emotional journey dealing with loss.
The game warns you about loss in the beginning. Players wake up as a boy named Peet in an asylum. Their goal is to make their way out of and get to town. Once in town, Peet realizes he needs to find his friend Wren. Peet quickly realizes the town has no adults and from the limited info players can gather they need to find Wren and the adults and figure out how to fix things..
The game has a nice 2D feel to it. The background and visuals are well done. Everything is dark but the world itself seems pretty vivid. The voice acting and sound effects are well done. Controls and load times are good. The controls are pretty simple, movement and a few action buttons.. Players will transgress a few stages and fight a few bosses. When the bosses are defeated players get songs they can play on a piano in town to unlock more items to use.
There are a few secrets here and there, a generous save system makes any mistakes gamers make easily forgivable. The game gets more and more twisted as time goes on, gamers will soon find out that not everything they have led to believe is the truth. A few other gamers thought the game reminded them of Hollow Knight. I thought the game had a light metroidvania feel. I thought the game was very good and did a great job with the atmosphere. No matter what in the end most gamers will be left a feeling of sadness or regret.
Final score
Pros:
Art style
Story is well done
Cons:
Controls can be stiff
Too short
This should be a $10 game
