Who doesn’t like cute robots that make funny noises? Biped has it all, robots, cute sound effects, co-op action and puzzles. There is plenty to like about this oddly charming platformer.
The game isn't too lengthy and is a lot of fun played with a co-op buddy. Gamers are thrust into the role of Aku and Sila. I found that the Pro controller is best for controlling the little robot, if not, each joy con controls a leg in solo gameplay. The solo mode gives you an AI buddy and it's okay, although sometimes getting them to do what they need is a headache. For a few of the puzzles I preferred a co-op buddy since it was easier to communicate. There aren’t any spoken words but the funny robots’ sounds and LCD expressions are charming to look at.
Moving the biped takes a little getting used to, which joystick moves what leg and how to grab items. But once you get the hang of this, it’s not too bad. There are options to skate and swing across gaps which helps move the game along. The story isn't too exciting about repairing beacons on earth. There are plenty of checkpoints which I was thankful for.
Each level has coins and stars to collect. This serves as a way to 100% this game. There is a time limit for speed runners and difficulty levels for additional challenges. The graphics are cute and the music is soothing. I found this a nice distraction. The game feels like it might be geared toward younger gamers, but I still enjoyed it.
I would say you could probably get through the game in a long weekend but there is some replay-ability. My only initial frustration was the controls and some of the later puzzles will be headache-inducing. Thanks to the publisher for letting us review the game and the game is on sale right now for $10-11 on Steam and PSN, go get it.
