The Gamers Lounge Thoughts on the Bethesda 2015 E3 Showcase
Bethesda’s E3 showcase was intense. Everyone wanted to know about Fallout 4, but Bethesda didn’t disappoint in anything they showed. They started with Doom 4 and this game reminds me of the classic Doom. Several weapons were shown off, shotguns, melee combat, and chainsaws. The game looks really gory, which is what we as gamers should expect. There is the Snapmap, which will let anyone build maps, create content, and then share it to to the world. Bethesda showed off some single player and several snippets of multiplayer. Gamers got to glimpse the BFG just briefly.
Bethesda teased a little of Battlecry. They showed off some combat and gave some beta information. There was talk of the Dishonored series. The upcoming Dishonored 2 looks good. There seems to be two main characters, male and female, the return of Corvo or a new character Emily. Each character has different abilities and it will be a multiplatform release. They also talked about the Dishonored Definitive Edition for PS4/XBone. This includes all the DLC, great for people who didn't get a chance to play the original.
There was also talk of Elder Scrolls Tamriel Unlimited and its coming to consoles. Elder Scrolls Legends is coming. It will be a fantasy card game that has the lore of the series. This looks interesting and should remind gamers of Hearthstone and for now it will be on PC and iPads. This gamer hopes it comes to Vita/Android tablets sometime.
The highlight of the presentation was Fallout 4. Concept art was displayed and the game looks incredible. This is what we know so far. The game takes place right after the nuclear bomb gets dropped. Character creation is much more in depth this time around. Gamers can modify each part of the protagonist’s face, which includes male and female options. Gamers will get to witness the nuclear attack, but survive in the Vault and they are the sole survivor. The game is very open, players can go anywhere and do anything just like in Fallout 3. They showed off the dog which will serve as the protagonist's companion. Bethesda also showed the player discovering the Pip-Boy for the very first time. Gamers can also rebuild the environment in Fallout 4 to their need, shaping a settlement with other NPCs. There is a crafting system for all sorts of items, including the weapons and armor and this includes Power Armor.
Fallout 4 looks fantastic. The Pip-Boy looks fun and entertaining. Not only does it show stats, there are game tapes and other videos to watch. Bethesda mentioned they wanted to make the Pip-Boy fun. The Collector’s Edition comes with a Pip-Boy that is compatible with gamers’ phones. It will function as a 2nd screen for gamers to use. There is also a smart phone game called Fallout Shelter. Gamers will build a vault and keep their NPCs happy. This looks a fun time waster and it will be completely free and playable offline. Fallout Shelter is ready to be released today, June 14th and it looks like its just for iOS for now.
Overall, the presentation was fantastic and Fallout 4 cannot come soon enough. Bethesda made the announcement at the end that Fallout 4 will come out this November.
