RYAN JOHNSON
Ninjin: Clash of Carrots Review
Ninjin is a retro style run-n-slice game where you play a ninja bunny (or fox) as you chase down the evil Shogun and his army who stole all the carrots in your hometown. It’s a lighthearted and fun take on classic twitch gameplay. Read in for a full review.
Yoshimi Yasuda, Director of God Wars, Describes the Hefty Labyrinth of Yomi Expansion; Additions to the Complete Legend
God Wars: Future Past was released last year for PlayStation 4 and Vita. The Complete Legend releases September 4th for Nintendo Switch and contains the Labyrinth of Yomi DLC which releases day and date for PS4/Vita. Given review of such a long game doesn’t allow you to see every inch of endgame content, Ryan Johnson at The Gamer’s Lounge was able to speak with Yoshimi Yasuda, director of God Wars, and found that the new content is more than expected.
God Wars: The Complete Legend Review
God Wars is an amazing tactical RPG that came out last year on PS4 and Vita. On September 5th it releases on Switch, with an additional $20 DLC baked in. Gamers who purchased the original on Sony systems may upgrade via DLC, but the Switch offers newcomers the chance to get it all in one affordable package that may be worth the double dip for major fans of the genre.
The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk (Switch) Review
The Inner World continues with the 2017 sequel, The Last Wind Monk. Both titles came out recently on the Switch, and both deserve their proper review. Ryan Johnson has reviewed both for The Gamer’s Lounge, and this review shows impressions of the second.
The Council: Episode 3-Ripples Review
Due to a slight error in obtaining the code, Episode 3 of the Council gets it’s review a tad later than most outlets, but that actually gives Ryan at The Gamer’s Lounge a chance to really see how this choice-driven narrative diverges so much, with his experience being different from other reviewers’. While the game still better end with some sort of branching choice rewind, the permanency rings in every decision made. Episode 3 brings us back to some of the biggest parts of what makes this series good.
The Inner World (Switch) Review
A modern classic in the point and click genre comes to the Nintendo Switch. The Inner World holds all it’s charm and wondrous puzzle solving, but hits some rough spots in terms of interface. Ryan Johnson at The Gamer’s Lounge reviews, with a review of The Wind Monk coming soon, the sequel released on the same day, coming soon.
Dead Cells Review
Rougelike + Metroidvanina = RougeVania, and it works so, so well. Dead Cells is an amazingly fun game that throws back to Symphony of the Night in gameplay, and the variety of randomization plus permanent unlocks gives you a wonderful sense of progression despite dying over, and over, and over, and over again.
Mothergunship Review
Mothergunship distills the first person shooter to it’s base and adds a great deal of gun crafting. Take all the shooty bits you find through the levels and build the boomstick of your dreams as you take on the alien horde with the intent to take down the Mothergunship.
Tempest 4000 Review
Tempest 4000 is a new edition of a classic Atari staple. It provides a great update in graphics and music, but changing the gameplay just wouldn’t be Tempest. Ryan Johnson at The Gamer’s Lounge runs it through the motions to see if it’s worth your time.
Touhou: Genso Wanderer Reloaded Review
Touhou: Genso Wanderer Reloaded is a rerelease of a PS4 roguelike with all DLC included based on the niche Touhou storyline. A new evil afflicts the land, and our hero must battle through randomized dungeons in turn-based grid combat in order to restore the balance.
The Lion's Song Review
The Lion’s Song is a classic adventure game more focused on choice and conversation. Within, you witness the growth of three artists in Vienna right before World War 1. The game portrays how some of the simplest choices can make the biggest difference in not only our lives, but the lives of those around us and society as a whole.
20XX Review
20XX is a procedurally generated Mega Man rougelite with two player cooperative possibilities. A lot of people are trying to fill the hole in their soul thanks to a missing Mega Man game, but 20XX expands on the gameplay in a way that really makes it it’s own.
Lost in Harmony (Switch) Review
Lost in Harmony does it’s best to meld the Endless Runner with Rhythm Action. It’s an upgrade from a two year old mobile title. While some improvements really help gameplay, a few choices hurt the overall feeling of the game. Regardless, it’s still a fun title worth your attention.
Rainbow Skies Review
Rainbow Skies is an indirect sequel five years in the making to Rainbow Moon. It is a very ambitious title that is not without hiccups. If you can deal with some strange design decisions, you’ll find a fun and addictive title with a light and exciting storyline.
Touhou: Azure Reflections Review
Touhou: Azure Reflections continues the series’ history of insane bullet-hell shooter, with a countless amount of bullets raining down. The Shrine Maiden must go forth again to find and eliminate the origin of the Red Mist.
Earth Atlantis (PS4/XB1) Review
Earth Atlantis came out about a year ago for Switch, and now makes it’s way to PS4 and Xbox One for a new audience. It retains the same solid gameplay from the Switch edition, making it an easy purchase for someone who doesn’t have a Switch. If you have both consoles, though, it would likely be best purchased on the original.
Happy Birthdays (Switch) Review
Happy Birthdays is an updated rerelease of the PC/PS4 game Birthdays: The Beginning. There’s not a lot here extra for people who are done with the original title, but the quality of life upgrades make this the definitive edition of the title that people can play anywhere thanks to the portability of the Switch.
The Council Episode 2: Hide and Seek Review
The Council finally returns with Episode 2: Hide and Seek. Within, a murder has happened, and it’s up to you to solve it. The game emphasizes player choice and lasting impact, but the murder itself made Ryan at The Gamer’s Lounge feel as if his choices meant less. Is the episodic game worth keeping up with? Ryan gives you his feelings.
Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory Review
Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory combines two simultaneous releases from Sony platforms last year, telling two sides of the same battle: a princess attempting to return her kingdom to splendor and the rebel who opposes her. These two titles get more added to them on the Switch, creating the definitive edition of both games.
