LucidSound’s LS50X Wireless + Bluetooth Gaming Headset Review

Four years ago I had the pleasure of reviewing one of LucidSound’s first gaming headsets, the LS20. I found the quality to be extremely good and still use the headset today. I was excited when LucidSound reached out about reviewing another of their headsets and I’m pleased to say that after a week of use LucidSound is still the best gaming headset manufacturer on the market.

Platform: Xbox One , Xbox Series X/S, PC, Mobile Phone

Price: $249.99

Where to Buy: Amazon, LucidSound, GameStop

Packaging

Unboxings are still all the rage on YouTube and LucidSound must have had this in mind when they designed the packaging. Bright colorful graphics on the slip cover, and the box with the contents is a thick cardboard with a glossy logo. When you open the box, it feels premium.

What’s Included

In the box you get the headset, removable boom mic, USB dongle, mobile 3.5mm cable, USB-C charging cable, mic port cover, and hard travel case.

The Headset

The build quality is what we have come to expect from LucidSound. The frame is metal with 50mm over the ear speakers branded with the LS logo. The earpads themselves are memory foam with a layer of cooling gel. When you first remove them from the packaging with the metal fame, they have some weight but when wearing them, you hardly feel them. With the added foam and gel they are very comfortable for long gaming sessions. These are a fully wireless headset and setup on Xbox is very easy. Simply plug in the USB dongle and you are good to go. The system recognizes it and sets it to default. The headset is Windows Sonic compatible and is the default setting on the Xbox. The headset also works with Dolby Atmos (you have to pay $15 for the license) and is a welcome feature that helps lift the headset above others in the same price range.

All the controls for the headset are on the ear cups. This headset has Bluetooth as well and allows you to pair it to your phone so you can answer calls and listen to music while you play. On the edge of the left headphone is the power button, and ports for the detachable mic, 3.5mm connections, and USB charging port. The edge of the right headphone has the Bluetooth pairing EQ presets button. The left and right earcup logos are buttons that you tap for different actions. The left, one tap mutes audio, double tap tells you battery life and long press puts the headset into Bluetooth or gaming mode. The right, one tap is mic mute and a long press turns the mic monitoring on and off. The rings around that plate adjust audio volume. The left is the main volume and the right is the chat mixer. It sounds complicated but you quickly get used to it.

Sound Quality

Overall sound quality is excellent. Rich bass and clean sound. There are five EQ Modes: Signature Sound, Bass Boost, Movie Mode, Music Mode, Flat EQ. There is also signature sound that I preferred. I highly recommend paying $15 to get Dolby Atmos on the Xbox One/Series X. It is a great experience with this headset. Keep in mind if you do use Atmos, turn off all EQ. It is controlled through the Atmos app on the console. The mic on the headset is detachable and works very well. Voice comes through crystal clear to other players with little to no background noise picked up. The headset has a secondary mic for use in Bluetooth mode on your phone. It works well and is on par with most mics on wireless earbuds.

Final Thoughts

So, what do I think? Well, this is one of the best gaming headsets I have ever used. The sound quality is fantastic, along with the build quality. It is fully wireless on Xbox and I have found the battery to last between 20 to 30 hours which is a huge plus. The $250 price tag is on the high end, but you are getting a premium headset that can be used not only on the Xbox One/Series X/S and PC, but with the 3.5mm cable you can also use it on Switch and PS4/5. The Bluetooth is great addition if you want to use these for music as well, or be able to answer your phone while gaming. If you are looking for a new gaming headset for your Xbox Series X/S, I can not recommend the LS50X enough.
