MaxLander: The Worlds First NFC Backup for Skylanders
To say Skylanders is a hit for Activision is like saying that fish like water. As of February 2015, the Skylanders franchise has had over $3 billion in sales and sold over 250 million toys. This fall the fifth installment of the game will be released, Skylanders: Superchargers and along with the game, a whole new collection of toys and accessories. For some, they have to collect them all, others only new characters, but what if there was a way to have your entire collection at the touch of a button? Well, thanks to MaxLander there is.
Anyone who follows us here at The Gamers Lounge read my Amiiqo article a few weeks back. A few days after it ran, I was contacted by the folks over at Maxlander about their device. Like the Amiiqo, this NFC device will allow you to copy your personal Skylanders figures and back them up to your PC. Now of course this also means you can download collections of figures, playsets, traps and other toys that you do not own and use them in your game. But what I think is nice, is if you are a collector that does not want to remove your toys from the packages but still want to play the game, you can just back up your figures with out removing them. Just like you can play the game with them. This means not having to always take a packaged figure off display and put it on the portal.
From what I can gather from the videos on their site, the device is easy to use and it works with every version of the game, even allowing you to use the different combinations in Swap-Force. The base set is $79.00 and includes a NFC reader/writer, a usb cable and two NFC tokens. I will be getting one of the base units and will have a full review this week. Be sure to check back.
What are your feelings on this new device? Is downloading data for figures you don't own like pirating movies or games? Share your thoughts below.
