Brook has a reputation of making reliable and practical hardware and accessories. The Gamer’s Lounge got its hands on one of its latest releases, the Vivid for Switch. It's a nice controller that should feel at home with most gamers, but can it stand up to the test of Smash and Mario Kart?
The Vivid is well built and the instructions it comes with are easy to follow like the Wingman XB we reviewed earlier this year. The Vivid comes in two fun colors Sunshine Yellow and Aqua Blue. At first glance the controllers are smaller than the Pro controllers and feel a little heavier. They have a nice two tone color scheme and don’t feel cheap. The controller itself is pretty comfy and the buttons are very responsive. It reminded me a lot of a 360 controller. They also work on iOS/Android and PC. I had no issues using it with my PC and my Switch and the rechargeable battery boasts 10 hrs of playtime.
The controller does offer some nice bonuses. Vibration is adjustable to three levels, there are aiming options to increase and decrease sensitivity of the joysticks. There is a nice FPS feature, and something I could get a lot of use out of on PC playing Warzone or Sniper Elite. There are also paddle buttons with macro modes which can record up to 25 button combos. There is also a turbo mode. I tested the turbo while playing Andros Duo and Jamestown+. Both games benefited from the extra options.
I tested out some Smash, Mario Kart, and a few arcade titles such as Night Slashers and Takedown. I wanted to see how the controller stood up to frantic button mashing. It was fine and actually may be better than the official Pro controller.
So far I have enjoyed my time with the Vivid and I prefer the Sunshine Yellow. I would recommend this controller for anyone looking for a secondary pro like controller that has a lot of options. Right now they are priced at $35 on Brooks’s site as well as Amazon and Stoneagamer. More info on the controller here. Brook has a well done video that covers the controller.
Big thanks to Brook for letting us review this nice piece of hardware!
