Serious Sam is back and it's been awhile. The official 4th game in the series doesn't disappoint. Newcomers and veterans alike should enjoy this game, there is just enough to keep people interested.
This was a series I had always been a fan of, back when I played the first game it was a strange FPS. Guys running around with bombs for heads, non stop action and silky smooth 60 fps. Did I mention the guns? That was a high point and they were a lot of fun. Well Serious Sam 4 is no slouch, while the plot is predictable, there is plenty to keep gamers entertained.
The game looks great and there are options for dealing with motion sickness which I really enjoyed. Doom from 2016 didn't bother me, but all of the latest Wolfenstein games made me ill, I had no issues with Serious Sam 4.
Sam has plenty of weapons at his disposal, rockets, shotguns, dual pistols and the list goes on and on. There are secrets scattered throughout the levels and a lot of them force players to jump or backtrack into areas. This should make players want to explore but most of the secrets are standard FPS stuff more ammo or armor, nothing like tracking down the little doom guys scattered around in Doom 2016
The combat is fluid, I was running and jumping and blasting with no issues. There are auto save points and games can save whenever. Load times are good, and when the action got heavy the game didn't show any signs of slowing down.
Overall it was fun for 10-15 hrs, plenty to do and explore. The game feels linear and I don't know how much there is to go back and play a 2nd time. I have to say the game does have a classic FPS feel to it, which can be a good and bad thing depending what kind of game people are looking for.
Thanks to the publisher for letting us review it
