Big Drunk Satanic Massacre or BDSM is one of those games where people are going to question how did this get on Switch? BDSM is a top down shooter much like Redeemer. The big question is there enough content to keep gamers interested?
BDSM stars Lou whos a gun tooting, foul mouth, sex driven son of the Devil. Did I mention this game is full of violence and sex? Well it is and Lou reminds me of Hellboy. But let’s cover the good things about the game first. BDSM has a lot of weapons and each of them has a secondary firing ability which makes taking down big groups of enemies easy. The higher difficulties send tons of enemies at players, making it live up to the Twin Stick genre. Players can power up Lou’s rage meter and he can unleash a super beam which destroys enemies.
There are some odd parts of the game. There are sex mini games, and all females Lou meets are part of this. While this didn't bother me, other gamers may be uncomfortable and it would be nice to have the option to skip this. Combat could use more, enemies appear in rooms and Lou had to kill them all. Rinse and repeat and maybe solve a puzzle in a room or two and get some more combos. The enemies did not vary enough for my taste. The Boss fights can be tough but there is much variety. While I enjoyed the level design it felt repetitive after a while.
There are some light RPG elements in the game. Players can upgrade Lou’s stats and attacks. I was thinking since this was one of the selling points of the game there would be more to it with varied skill trees. Unfortunately, the RPG elements don't make the game any better, they are just there. If the combat was more interesting and the story had some curveballs I could see gamers staying interested. I also felt the long times were way too long for a game like this. If gamers are looking for a Twin Stick shooter with a mature theme it's worth a play.
