Garage Sale finds early June 2017
Hello garage sale hunters! I have been busy these last few weeks. After having a few weeks of finding next to nothing, my odds improved. Fortune favors the bold, so they say. If these finds are any indication how the rest of the summer will go, it is going to be a good year
I have been doing a recent bit of thrifting again. I went to goodwill twice in the last few weeks and found GTA V for PS3 for $4, Tekken 7 sealed for $25 and Aminal Crossing for 3DS for $5. The first weekend of June, I went to a large sale on the other side of the state. The sale was in a gated island community where over 100 houses had sales. In years past I have found good gems, SNES with games for $3, a sealed copy of Resident Evil 3 for PS1 and several CIB NES games.
This year I had several good finds in the first hour. The first sale I stopped at after parking had a white Wii system with the box with New Super Mario Bros and Wii sports. She wanted $50, I held off. But I did snag a TI-84 Silver Plus graphing calculator from her for $10. A few other sales later a lady had a Wii with 4 wiimotes and 4 nunchucks, a balance board and 9 games including Wii Sports, Mario Kart, and Wii Party all of it was $10. I bought that without even batting an eye.
About 30 mins later I had ventured further asking around sales and passing over a lot of things I saw. I came across a dirty Super Scope for $25. I spotted a black Xbox 360 slim with some games for $120. A beat up 360 for $30, a PS2 fat for $20 but all the games and controllers were extras. He also has an OG xbox for $20 and a Wii for $30. None of the systems or games appealed to me. I found a Chromecast for $5 down the street and I snagged that.
A guy was giving away old PC games and PS1 controllers. I eagerly grabbed Baldur's’ Gate 1 complete in box, Worms Armageddon in box, and a like new PS1 controller. Another sale had a DSi and two games for $5. I also picked that up, no questions asked. By this time it had been a few hours and I was tired. I headed back to the car and made one more stop. I got Mario Strikers for Wii and Batman Arkham Knight for $5. Total spent that day was $30 and it may have been one of the best years I have had.
The weekend of June 9th and 10th I decided to try my luck in my home town. I went to two yard sales. One was a random sale near my house. The lady running it had Super Smash Bros Melee for $.25. I also got two GameCube controllers for $2 and she threw in Smash Bros. I went to the next sale where the guy had posted that he was having a sale and it included a Watermelon 64, I thought that was going to be a lot of people there at 9 am.
There wasn’t anyone else there. I was there for 15 mins before someone showed up asking about the N64. The guy at this sale had old PC games for sale such as Ultima IV and Gold Rush and a few copies of Baldur's’ Gate 2. He also had Gamecube system and games, an Xbox steering wheel, and lots of Xbox games. There were some Transformers, I think they were Generation 1.
He sold me the as-is GameCube and the nicer copy of Baldur’s Gate II CE for $10. I was happy with both. I cannot wait for the rest of the summer.
Here is my garage sale tip of the week, if you see something in the ad you want, you could always email the seller and ask them to hold it or to see if you can see it early.
