April’s Garage sale finds continued
April’s Garage sale finds continued...
Spring is here and this means everyone is having yard sales. These last two weeks have been an interesting adventure of travel and interactions with strange people. But at least I can say I found some good stuff.
The weekend of April 22nd was all about Saturday morning. Before venturing out I wanted to follow up with a lady in a Facebook group who was having a yard sale. She had mentioned Wii games. I was also planning to follow up with someone who had Genesis games. I knew for sure I was going to find something good at either of those sales.
I headed to the sale that promised lots of Wii games. What I found was not what the ad said. She had 4 Wii games and the lady wanted $5 each I talked her down to $15. I got Mario Kart, Star Wars Republic Heroes, Nerf Strike, and UDraw. Not that great of a deal since they are disc only and I later discovered only one of them worked. I think I might have struck out in this deal.
The next sale I hit listed electronics and was running as a Saturday only sale. She had a fat PS2 with a memory card. She didn't know the price, and tried to call her son who wanted $30. I tried to get her to take $10 since she couldn’t tell me if it works. System itself looked rough and after a few minutes of discussion we settled on $15.
After the PS2 sale I raced across town to follow up on an Offerup Yard Sale. Lady was moving and everything was going. I picked up a DS and 9 games for $60, nothing outstanding, but I did get Pokemon Heartgold and Pokemon White.
The last sale I went to was clear across town, but this was the sale that had Genesis games. She also mentioned she had games for 360 and some PS2 stuff. The sale was amazing. I saw Wisdom Tree Genesis games, Battletoads and Double Dragon and Aladdin. Everything else for sale was common games and controllers. He wanted $100 for the lot but I decided on a few 360 games, a PS2 controller to go with the fat PS2 I had picked up, a few ps2 games, and Aladdin for $32. Once I got home I discovered the PS2 controller didn't work. It was $2 so I didn't feel that bad. Everything else I tested worked great.
The finds only get better with the week of April 24th. At the end of the week I went to a community Catholic School Garage Sale. I arrived late at the sale around 10 am and it was disaster, too many people and not enough space. I did step into the last room before the exit and there amongst the piles of electronics was games. Most of them were 360, OG Xbox, or PC games. None of the PC games interested me, I almost picked up Grabbed by the Ghoulies and Timesplitters 2 for Xbox at $5 each. I did grab SVC Chaos, which was a complete copy for $5. As I was leaving the room I spotted a few DS games. I checked the pile and found 3 of the Professor Layton Games. They were complete and like new I also grabbed a sealed copy of Windows XP OEM SP3. I paid $30 for everything.
Those finds were on Friday but I also went out yard-saleing on the 29th. I decided to go to another community sale which is in a convention center. But before going there I went to a sale up the street advertising games. They had almost every Halo game for 360 I passed on those in favor of $1 DS games.
The larger sale at the convention center didn't have much. I passed on an OG Xbox for $45, passed on crummy 360 and PS3 games for $2 each. I did snag Tom and Jerry for Gamecube for $2. On the way home I hit up one more sale and walked away with a copy of Terraria for 360 for $12. It has been a crazy last few weeks.
Yard sale tip of the week, double check what you buy to make sure it has the game in the case and make sure the game doesn't look like it was used as a coaster.
