Astervoid 2000 Review
Astervoid 2000 is the kind of title that demands couch co-op. I recently got a chance to play this twist on an retro classic and was impressed with it. This may be another game that needs to be added to party list for those that enjoy couch co-op on the big screen.
I have a few fond memories of games like this in the arcade or back in the early 90s of PC gaming. Games similar to Asteroids have been on all sorts of platforms across console generations. Astervoid 2000 was developed by Mad Capcity and LREVG. After playing it for an hour or so I can definitely say Astervoid 2000 belongs in this retro arcade genre but adds a few neat twists. The game is fast and there is a lot of non stop action. Gamers have the options to pick from several ships . This is best played with up to 4 players in a large living room.
Single player is set to survival mode. This means gamers are tasked with taking on wave after wave of baddies. Controls are tight and I was able to boost around and blast enemies. The maps are randomized and the waves of enemies only get larger. An example of one of the twists are the asteroids. They come in different forms this time, explosive, icy, and a few others all of these can be used against enemies. The shots from the ships are short, but smart gamers will use the asteroids as barriers and as a way to reflect their shots toward enemies. I only survived a few waves but I had fun.
The soundtrack and the graphics should take gamers back to a simpler time, but the fast paced gameplay should keep people interested. I wish the game had more options and more content. That might be the only thing holding it back. Currently the game is $10 on Steam and if you are interested in games like this, than pick it up. Game was provided by the publisher for review.
Final score 3.5/5
