End of May/Early June Garage Sale Finds
Summer is officially here and this means garage sales should be happening. If the the last few weeks are any indication its going to be a long summer. Here are some of my finds so far.
The end of May was interesting. I went to several advertised sales during the last weekend if the month and struck out. The only thing I saw was my competition leaving sales ahead of me. I did have some luck the weekend of the 21st. I went to one sale that had games listed. The wanted $50 a piece for PS1 and PS2, both systems came with games. None of the games were good and the price was too much so I passed. They did have Marvel vs. Capcom Ultimate for PS3 for $5 and Kirby’s Epic Yarn for $5, I picked up both.
I went to a few more sales and didnt see much. I saw some DS and Wii shovelware as well as DDR 1 and 2 for Wii with 2 dance pads. The price was too much at $15. I also came across DJ Hero for the Wii with turntable for $20. I went to several more sales and did't find anything.
June is another story. The first weekend of the month is the Lake Tapps Annual Garage Sale in Western WA. People come from several hours away to attend this sale. I have gone almost every year since 2010 and have had some good finds in the past. Here are a few examples, Zelda CIB for NES for $10, sealed Resident Evil 3 for PS1 for a $1, and a 120 GB Slim PS3 for $50.
This year wasn’t as good as last year but I did see a few video game related items. There was lots of Wii shovelware, a few DS games, and a lot of overpriced 360 and Xbox One games. I saw a few 360 Kinects and I almost laughed, who would be buying that for $15? I did get a few good deals. At one house there was a dirty Wii had a few games. I snagged House of the Dead Overkill for $5.
I also picked up a slim PS2, no controllers or cables for $7. The seller had it marked for $10 and I offered $5 he countered with $7. Even if the system is broken I still have a use for it. I found a silver slim PS2 with hookups that came with several Buzz games and controllers. The PS2 also had Guitar Hero 3 with Guitar and dongle, and a wired PS2 controllers. Box was marked $27, and the seller was happy to accept $25. I had to carry that box two miles back to the car. I may have missed out on some Wii games at one house, there was a bin of them, and it looked like someone had already gone through it. I also passed on two 16gb 1st Gen Nexus 7 tablets, several pop figures, Fallout Loot Crate (my brother bought this), and a few Windows 8 laptops.
I always think that after two years of having no good finds I’ll skip a year. But the only years I had kinda crummy finds were 2012 and 2014. Tip of the week, if you are going to a large 50+ house neighborhood full of garage sales remember where you parked and bring something to haul your loot.
