Armello Review
Armello was the result of a kickstarter from League of Geeks. The best way to describe the game is as a fantasy board game. Mario Party meets Redwall with some Game of Throne elements mixed in was the first thing that came to my head when playing. The Gamers Lounge got a chance to review this niche game and so far we have had a good time. The game has a lot to offer if gamers are willing to learn
Two members of The Gamers Lounge attempted multiplayer but couldn’t get it to work. It appears you need 4 people and we were unable to find two random people to play with. But we did try out the single player game and there were a lot of good things to experience. Gamers can pick from several characters; each of them have different abilities and stats, everything from rabbits to wolves to bears. Each character has a distinct class with special abilities and this affects how the game moves.
The game does appear to be complicated, dice, cards, characters moving around a living game board. There are many options on what gamers can do in each of their turns. The concept of the game is this, players must get their prestige up before the King dies of Rot. As each day passes, he gets weaker and weaker, he also is slowly going crazy. He is well defended, something I figured out quickly, as a direct attack did not yield good results.
The board is set up like this, the King is in the middle of the board and players start in the 4 corners. Players can defeat the King in combat, but gaining prestige and winning this way is a lot easier. Players can roam the board defeating other players, the King’s Guards, and random monsters, all of this contributes to gaining the upper hand over the other players and the King.
The only thing I see missing from this game is more customization. Games tend to take a while and there is no way to select a quick game. But the game is fun and if you have 4 friends, give it a shot. There isn’t really anything else like it on the PS4.
Score is 3.5/5
