Garage Sale Finds the Week of 5/1
Sorry for the delay in getting this posted. I’ve been busy with a few other things on the weekends. I did have some finds in early May and I’ll be on the hunt again the next few weekends.
Before the weekend of May 1st, I had seen a few sales on Craigslist advertising games. I headed out around 8am on Saturday and the first sale I hit was a moving sale. Lots of neat stuff, art, old tools, big ticket items, and they had advertised a red Wii with games for $100. I talked to the person running the sale and they said they would sell the games separately. The had mostly common games including Wii Sports, and Sonic and the Black Knight. The also had a complete copy of Mario Kart Wii and New Super Mario Bros. She said I could have them both for $20, I said how about $15 and she was fine with that.
The next two sales I hit advertised Xbox One items and Wii stuff. Both of the sales had nothing and I had gotten there at the start. I should have asked if they still had the items but both sales were pretty busy. The last stop I made was an apartment sale. Video games weren’t advertised but I always try to stop at community/neighborhood sales.
I was right. One guy was selling PS3 games. $5-$10 a piece for games such as Black Ops, COD3, Modern Warfare 2, Soul Calibur and a few others. I saw that Red Dead Redemption GOTY was $5. I have owned and played the regular RDR and I had the DLC for the Undead Nightmare on a gameshare. Sadly when I put my new hard drive in my PS3 last year I lost access to that game share. I will gladly pick up where I left off and try to finish the story in Undead Nightmare. I’ve been looking for this game of a bit and I cannot seem to find it under $20
On the way home I went to a house just a few blocks from mine. They had an original Xbox with hookups and no controller for $5. First thing I did was check the manufacturing date. As gamers know with the original xbox stay away from the ones made in 2002-2003. They have the Thompson DVD drive which is super finicky.
The manufacturing date was 2004. Which means it probably has a Samsung drive. The lady running the sale mentioned that it did work. For $5 I can’t say no, and if it doesn't work I’ll sell it for parts. I took it home and it turned on. The Xbox also included a copy of Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. I just need to track down a cheap controller and a copy of Shenmue II and my reason for owning an Xbox will be complete.
Garage sale tip of the week, I had forgotten to mention one last week. If the sale advertises video games but there aren’t any don’t hesitate to ask. They might have put them away or have them stashed in a box.
