Will the Retron5 create a retro revolution?
Retro gaming has steadily picked up over the last 10 years. The last generation of gaming gave life-long fans remakes and digital downloads of the classics that many gamers enjoyed. The RetroN 5 is right around the corner, and its release could mean several great options for gamers. The Gamers Lounge speculates that gamers could see a retro gaming revolution where interest in retro gaming grows, while dealing with the sudden influx of demand for retro games.
The RetroN 5 will make retro gaming affordable for those interested. Buying an SNES, a Genesis, a Master System or a Master System Converter, NES, and a GBA SP or GBA Advance, would set most gamers back at least $190+ and that's not counting the Famicom. The RetroN 5 is around $100 for those who pre-ordered and those who waited will pay $139. The added bonuses of gamers being able to use their original controllers, as well as transfer saved game files, make the Retron 5 very appealing.
At the same time, I think the prices of even the common games for SNES/Genesis/NES will spike. Suddenly everyone has an easy way to relive the late 80s and early 90s, to play the games they remembered as kids or teenagers. The RPGS and other rare games could continue to go up in price. Even with re-releases, copies of Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, Secret of Mana, and others, could continue to hold their value. Some of the more common games such as Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Sonic 2, Super Mario 3 could all see spikes in price as well. Personally, I am excited to get the RetroN 5. I’ll have several systems in one unit and gamers like myself can clear some space in their game rooms.
The HDMI out will ensure the console works with newer TVs, but the optional settings could make the game appear like the original. What else is there to say? The early reviews have shown gamers that the system works like it should. The games look great. Hyperkin needs to hurry up and put out the Retron system which will support Nintendo 64 games. As for the games, I will continue to monitor the prices and we’ll see if these fluctuate.
