Is Titanfall a must buy?
Quite a few gamers had a chance over the weekend to play the beta of Titanfall. The Gamer’s Lounge as lucky enough to play a few hours. The big question outside of the hype is this the game that will change everything? Will this be the next Halo or Call of Duty? Is it a must buy for gamers?
Its hard to tell so far. A beta only shows gamers so much. But it was fun, running around in a Mech or as a pilot. Seeing how much damage a large mech could do. Riding on the shoulders of an allies’ mech was also a blast. The game seems semi balanced. The game isn't going to have single player will this be the next big FPS that everyone talks about and everyone plays?
Its possible, Titanfall could be a new variant of FPS. When was the last time there was a great mech fps? Well Hawken came out recently and that’s pretty fun and it's free. It plays similar but everything focuses on the Mechs and there are a lot of loadouts to choose from. I haven't been interested in a mech game this much since MechWarrior 4 for PC. My worry for Titanfall is that it will sell well in the beginning but after a while interest may die down. How are they going to keep new players interested? No one likes jumping into a game and getting killed 40 times before learning everything. Are the 6 man teams too small? If this is the future of the fps genre where does it go from here? Will gamers see a bunch of Titanfall clones? What will Activision and Infinity Ward have planned for Call of Duty?
Enough of the speculation, here are my thoughts on Titanfall, the game looks and plays good. Titanfall sounds really try to capture the idea of man vs machine and I feel very empowered in a Titan. The game feels fast paced and as a pilot the 60 seconds you have to wait for a Titan isn't that long. I did find that you can be crushed by a friendly Titan if you are in the way when it drops. The Beta showed that there seems to be a lot of content for those who play a lot. Casual gamers may be left behind when Titanfall takes off. Will I be buying it day one? The $60 price is hard to swallow with the lack of a single player campaign. But honestly I keep buying Battlefield for the multiplayer. If enough of my friends go and pick it up then I think I’ll have to get it as well. This could be the game that sells millions of Xbox One consoles. If you are interested in getting the game I recommend getting it for PC or Xbox One on Amazon where at least you get the pre-order bonus guide and a $5 digital game credit.
