AION has long been one of the most iconic and leading MMOs that has held its ground in an ever-growing landscape since 2008. While it never necessarily became as mainstream as, say, World of Warcraft, AION remained a staple in the industry and genre, while also becoming a household name due to its creativity and drive to do something different compared to the typical fantasy MMO. Almost twenty years later, NC Soft has now revealed its successor—AION 2.

Coming 2026

NC America officially confirmed today that AION 2, the action-packed, open-world MMORPG, will arrive later this year on Steam and PURPLE platforms. Featuring flight as a signature experience, players can fly freely across a world 36 times larger than the original AION, dive underwater, and engage in aerial combat in PvE and PvP gameplay.

The AION 2 development team has invested deeply in building a version suited for global PC players and will be actively engaging with Western players and media throughout the year. The AION 2 development team will introduce more news for AION 2 in May, and looks forward to answering questions from the community.

First, the AION 2 global version is built specifically for PC.

Second, servers will be hosted locally in North America, South America, Europe, and Japan. AION 2 will be localized to 10 different languages players can choose from in-game: English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

Third, starting today, global players can visit the AION 2 Steam page to Wishlist it and check out the official website for details and community activity.

The developers also had more information outside of the press release presented on Steam, showcasing further excitement and what to expect.

At launch, AION 2 will be accessible globally and will maintain servers in four regions with in-game language options for English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Portuguese (Brazil), Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Chinese (Simplified & Traditional).

The Next Chapter Takes Flight

AION 2 offers both deep PvE and intense PvP, built on a foundation of freedom of movement and flight. The game showcases a best-in-class flying experience packed with spectacular aerial combat and environmental traversal. AION 2 features fast-paced combat that blends precision, timing, and positioning with traditional tab-targeting.

AION 2 brings a varied and deep set of PvE content from solo and four-player dungeons to eight-player raids, where the core gameplay experience is about mastering the game mechanics, movement, and teamwork. AION 2 also offers a variety of PvP activities involving high-stakes fights, from 1v1 and 4v4 arenas to massive-scale, cross-server RvR (Realm-vs-Realm) battles, and the return of the faction-based Abyss from the original AION.

AION 2 is set 200 years after the original conflict. After the destruction of the Tower of Eternity, the traditional Elyos and Asmodian factions must navigate a shattered universe while confronting the newly empowered Balaur faction.
