Shoot em up games are everywhere, so it takes something different to really add anything to the genre. Robo Revenge Squad from Mill Games mixes things up a bit by making just about everything you encounter a potential weapon. Appliances, baseball bats, and disco balls, they’re all weapons you can use against your alien antagonists.
This game is hard to write about because it's really quite straightforward. Missions are simple in concept and of course more difficult in execution. Campaigns are objective-based and require a bit of ingenuity to complete. Aliens are trying to keep you from your objective, and (of course) their big, bad bosses.
Once you complete your objective you still have to get your shiny metal butt back out to survive, Along the way you unlock parts & cosmetics and new gadgets and weapons. As you progress, you will be able to use these new items to not only style your robot, but customize it to your play style: mele, ranged or a hybrid of the two.
By itself, that would be enough for a favorable review, but where Robo Revenge Squad really earns its corn is Co-op play. It’s pure MADNESS, and is vastly improved by the high customizability of your characters.
On the critical side, the sound and graphics are fine, but not spectacular and could use a little polish but that pales in comparison to the strong multiplayer. The only serious beef I have is that if players are using similar skins it’s sometimes hard to tell your bots apart. I appreciate every game I am given to review, but this one was a real pleasure.
The Good:
Good Mechanics
Outstanding Co-op
Re-playable
The Bad:
Avatars could be more recognizable in Co-op.
