Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bonetown Preview
A wise man said “all good stories involve pirates.” We shall put that to the test with a peek at Imaginary Labs interactive tale where we guide Willy Morgan down the dark allies of a pirate town on a quest to discover the fate of his missing father.
Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bonetown hearken back to the early graphic adventure classics like Space Quest and Willy Beamish. Game-play is straightforward as you select and manipulate various objects in Willie’s environment to move the story forward. Like the earlier games you need a good eye for detail and a little imagination to progress.
I think I wandered into Stephen King’s back garden.
The choices you make involve finding parts for certain needed items and other necessary things for your trip to Bonetown. The game play itself is non-linear, but progress is occasionally bottlenecked by the usual adventure game frustrations. How do I get the whatsit from on top of the whooha and the inevitable “I’m sorry Dave I can’t do that” type of rejection when you try something not in the script. On this note, for some reason it won’t let me throw Willy’s bed out the window nor can I flush a bicycle tire down the toilet. Restrictions on what you can handle and who or what you can set on fire are necessary from a game design point of view. It won’t work if it’s too obvious and it can be tedious if the designer gets a bit too enthusiastic about making things difficult. We will see how well Willie Morgan handles these challenges when the game hits the streets.
Apparently all the Carpenter’s in this reality have depth perception issues.
