Shumps have always had a soft spot in my heart. Raiden III x MIKADO MANIAX is a nice port of a PS2 classic and it adds a lot of options.. There should be enough there to keep fans of the series busy for a bit.
This game looks and sounds great and reminds me so much of the PS2 version back in the day. Graphically it has a lot to offer, the flashy enemies and the interesting backgrounds kept me looking and surprised. The music has some nice remixes to it and one of the fun options is you can customize it per stage.
There are several game modes to pick from, a time attack, arcade, boss rush, and a 2 player tag mode which can be setup to share a controller. There is also a world ranking mode which lets gamers climb up some leaderboards.
If gamers are die hard fans of the series there are lots of unlockables, new music, wallpaper, new artwork and the list goes on and on. There are options for flipping the screen 90, 180 or 270! Perfect for playing this game with a vertical setup to utilize the flip grip.
Plenty of accessibility options can make the game very easy. Turn down the hitboxes, give yourself more lives and the list goes on and on. Lots of options for weapons from missiles, to lighting to anything in between. The Boss battles are big and some are very intense. I preferred the missiles and multiple bullets to the lightning. The game is challenging which wasn't a surprise.
Overall, this game has a lot to offer in replay value for fans of shmups and at $30 this seems like a good price for those interested.
