Late March Garage Sale and Thrift pickups
As we move into early spring garage sales should be heating up at the end of March. The last few years at this time have been very fruitful. The competition hasn’t ventured out and usually everything is fine. This wasn't the case in the last few weeks in March
The weather here has been rainy and then randomly sunny for some other days. I ventured out Friday the 17th, although I should have stayed home and attempted to recover further from the PAX East Pox of 2017. I went to one sale that advertised games. They had pictures of Wii and PS2 games for $2. There also had a PS2 for $20.
I was excited and decided to show up 10 minutes early; looking back, maybe I should have messaged the seller the night before to see if they would hold the games for me. By the time I got to the driveway, I realized someone had already got to everything I wanted. There was a guy haggling with the lady running the sale buying the PS2 and a few miscellaneous games. He needed change and asked me for change. I went ahead and broke his 20s into smaller bills.
After he left, I picked through the leftover PS2 games. Nothing stood out. It was mostly sports and dull titles not worth the $1 she wanted for each. I did snag two Calvin and Hobbes books I didn't have. I also picked up a Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Vol 1 on blu-ray. The lady let me have it for $2 since I was nice to the other gentleman.
She mentioned that someone had showed up at 7:15, a very rude man and bought all her Wii games and asked whey she wasn’t open earlier. I nodded my head in agreement with her and left. I don't think that was my main competition, as he would have bought everything and not just the Wii games.
I also took the time to venture to my local Goodwill when it opened that morning and found a few things. I found a wireless white 360 controller for $5 and a copy of Wii Sports Resort for $5. I grabbed both, figuring I could trade them for other things as needed. I also went to my local game store to get a few discs resurfaced. I picked up an off-brand Dreamcast controller and a used Wii nunchuck for $11 total.
The next weekend was a dud and I didn't hit up any sales. I did pick up a Dreamcast with 4 controllers, a vmu, hookups, Virtua Tennis, NFL BLitz 2001 and Sonic Adventure for $55 from an acquaintance. This will be a gift for my brother, but I'm keeping Blitz.
I also picked up a used PSP from Facebook. It was a 3001 model in decent shape with a 4gb card and several games. I paid around $45 for it. The PSP also came with a heavy locking case that I’ll find a use for. I did miss out on a $100 Sega CD attached to Model 1 Genesis lot this week because I didn't want to spend $100. The ad showed lots of complete Genesis games and a few Sega CD games. Some of the harder to find stuff looks like I could have made around $400 on it. I would have had to get A/V and a power cord for it.
Here’s to April starting up soon and my need to hit up some good garage sales.
